Dutch government will not advise public to wear masks.
The decision was announced by Minister for Medical Care Tamara van Ark after a review by the country’s National Institute for Health (RIVM). The government will instead seek better adherence to social distancing rules. “Because from a medical perspective there is no proven effectiveness of masks, the Cabinet has decided that there will be no national obligation for wearing non-medical masks” Van Ark said. RIVM chief Jaap van Dissel said that the organization was aware of studies that show masks help slow the spread of disease but it was not convinced they will help during the current coronavirus outbreak in the Netherlands. He argued wearing masks incorrectly, together with worse adherence to social distancing rules, could increase the risk of transmitting the disease.

Decrease in new cases correlated to mask mandates in Kansas counties. The graph referenced in the first link can be found in the second link. (Looks like a 20-30 percent reduction?)

Hotter weather due to COVID-19, it’s 94 here in Boulder, CO today! Or wait, that could just be summer… Association is not causation.

Thanks for the reply. I’m aware that correlation between two variables does not necessarily imply causation. I’ve been on both sides of the argument. I anticipated that would be a likely response, but put myself out there anyway. I thought having two populations with the no mask population as sort of a control group would increase the evidence grading. Apparently not.

It’s all interesting information, but the issue is that there are countless other variables that weren’t controlled. At least with Sweden, we’re comparing strategy A vs. strategy B.
